Young olive plant production is carried out by various producers. This is mainly the result of traditional practices, but also depends on varieties and climate conditions.

There are two main production stages:

  
 
  • Rooting of cuttings with or without grafting: 6 – 8 weeks
  • Growing stage: 1 – 3 years
 
  The main irrigation solutions are as follows:  
 

1. For rooting purposes: fogging system for increasing humidity and for irrigation.

Fog can be applied by CoolNet fogger in short pulses of 5 seconds each, followed by intervals of 20 to 30 seconds – to provide the required humidity level (should be adapted to specific local conditions).

Water application for the cutting growth (mainly after the roots are already formed) will require an additional sprinkler system.

   
 
  2. For the growing stage:
Normally, young olive plants are grown in pots of 1-4 liters (plastic or other material).
Irrigation in pots utilizes a drip system.
A pressure compensated dripper provides a good solution.		  
     
 
   

 

 

A new trend focuses on growing olives with a relatively small rooting system, in trays. Here sprinkler irrigation could provide a good solution.
